Tommaso Leto is an award winning designer now working as a photographer. He began his career as a graphic designer and art director in the Chicago area. In 1985 he founded PDG, a design firm that has been recognized with numerous awards for excellence. In 2006 he began a new career as a photographer. Educated in the United States he currently divides his time between New York City and Rome, Italy.

Tommaso Leto é un graphic designer che ha vinto moltissimi premi, attualmente si dedica alla fotografia. Ha cominciato la sua carriera come disegnatore grafico e consulente d'arte nella zona di Chicago. Nel 1985 ha fondato PDG, una societa grafica, premiata piú volte per eccellenza. Ha studiato negli Stati Uniti e attualmente divide il suo tempo tra New York City e Roma.

Artist Statement
I find the walls of Rome a great source of inspiration. I like the way the vibrant color excites my eye and how the textures make me want to reach out and touch. My photographs are not about defining an entire wall, but a different way of seeing the wall. I am captivated by the layers of color and tiny details within the walls. Cracks and graffiti are transformed into images that become beautiful paintings. My present series of images are called “Muri Romani” (Roman Walls). Each photograph is a detail of a wall in the heart of Old Rome and the image is named for the street where it was photographed. My "captive faces" compositions are computer manipulated photographs that release powerful and emotional images. Rome is alive and its walls have much to say that keep it vibrant and eternally young. I hope you enjoy my vision of these amazing Roman walls.

Trovo"i Muri" di Roma una grande fonte di ispirazione. I colori vivi e le texture mi eccitano l'occhio e mi spingono a toccarli ed ammirarli. Le mie foto non definiscono un muro di per se, bensí offrono una visione nuova nel vedere "I Muri". Sono preso dagli strati di colore ed i minuziosi dettagli di questi muri. Spaccature e graffiti sono trasformati in immagini che a sua volta diventano bellissimi quadri. La presente serie di immagini sono chiamate "MURI ROMANI" La maggior parte delle persone non li notano: nonostante che implorano di essere sentiti e visti. Roma é viva ed i suoi muri millenari hanno molto da dire. Roma é eternamente giovane e vitale. Mi permettete di condividere la mia visione di questi bellissimi muri con Voi.

Dei muri antichi della Cittá Eterna sembra risvegliarsi in Tommaso Leto un celato bisogno di soliditá su cui proiettare una percezione immaginifica fatta di sensazioni, colori, profonditá che peró non sono una sua esclusiva. Infatti lo stesso autore tende a precisare che i suoi MURI "sono vivi"; "urlano, chiedono di essere ascoltati e sentiti", come a testimoniare la loro anima nascosta, un'anima che si racconta e si lascia scrutare solo da chi ha raggiunto quella sensibilitá interiore per poterne comprendere il senso: ogni immagine ci racconta secoli di storia con le sue luci e le sue ombre diventando protagonista di numerosi eventi; allora proprio grazie al lavoro di Tommaso Leto viene concesso al pubblico il piacere di provare particolari emozioni che nella nostra vita contemporanea vengono spesso trascurate.
